Why did I create this website?
Hi everyone! And welcome to this new website askateacher.ie!
So what’s this all about?
My name is Sandra and I have been teaching for 18 years in primary school education. I completed a Masters in I.T. in Education and have always been looking for a way to combine my teaching experience with I.T. in a meaningful way. I have four young children, two of which are in the primary education system – junior end. From meeting lots of new parents and having friends and family who have children starting school or further on in the system – I realised that lots of parents can really feel in the in the dark when it comes to the primary education system in Ireland. They have so many questions – about the system in general, more specific ones about their child’s learning, about curriculum and many more. Some questions are easily answered and some need deeper input.
Class sizes are big here in Ireland and the teacher’s day is an extremely busy one. In my experience as a mother, my children’s teachers have been amazing and communication excellent but being a teacher myself, I feel I have an understanding of how it all works. But not everyone does and this is why I decided to create this website.
With 18 years of teaching experience, I have been fortunate to have met some of the most talented teachers from Junior Infants to 6th Class, SEN Teachers and principals. These educators have a wealth of experience and knowledge. I have met so many teachers that have particular strengths in specific areas such as wellbeing, numeracy, literacy, music, IT. and more. I wanted to create a space where this knowledge base could be tapped into and accessed by parents.
So this is were AskaTeacher.ie comes in! I have created this service to connect parents to teachers. No question too big or too small. Parents’ queries will be matched to the teacher with the most experience in this area.
My vision for parents using our service is to come away with that feeling of “ah I understand that now.” I want to empower parents to help their child on their learning journey.
If a query veers out of our field, we will do our best to connect you to the right service for you.
This website will evolve and grow. We aim to provide short courses for parents on various topics of interest. If we see the same queries coming in over time, we will create a short course for parents to avail of.
Bare with us if we make mistakes in the beginning – this is new to us too and we will welcome any feedback to make this service better and more meaningful for parents.
