The above skills are easily overlooked when our little ones are starting primary school. Mastering these really reduces a lot of pressure and stress for the pupil, parent and teacher.

Picnics are a great chance to practise these skills – pack a lunch using the intended lunch box and bag and allow your little one to practise opening and closing the lunchbox, placing it in the bag, zipping the bag closed, opening the bag to take it out.
Using the toilet by themselves and showing your child how to wipe their bum can all be done gradually and with lots of positive encouragement.
